Corinthians boss gives update on Memphis ahead of Santos derby

Corinthians drew 1-1 in the Majestoso against São Paulo at the Neo Química Arena in a match valid for the third round of the 2026 Paulista Championship, with goals scored by Tapia for the rival, and Breno Bidon in the final minutes for Timão.

In the press conference, Dorival Jr was asked about the possible return of Memphis Depay, number 10 who has not yet played this season, for the match against Santos and dismissed the possibility: “Memphis is completely ruled out for Thursday. We continue to look for an option that fits, the one who gives a more positive response will have more opportunities. We need to find an immediate option within our group.”

When speaking about the possibility of Memphis being present in the Supercopa Rei against Flamengo, on the upcoming February 1st, Dorival remained cautious and did not guarantee the athlete's presence: “Look, we are waiting. He is starting a transition, but still pointing out some limitations, including maintaining some pain, the level of pain we can't know. So, we have to be calm and not pinpoint a specific moment for a return or not, I think we have to let things happen.”

It is worth noting that the Dutch forward's transition to the field only began last Thursday, the date of the game against Bragantino, showing that the athlete is still in the early stages of recovery and physical conditioning after a bone edema problem in his left knee, suffered back in the 2025 season, even before the Copa do Brasil final, where the player scored the title-winning goal for the alvinegro.
