Another of Leeds United’s Premier League rivals has changed head coach, with Fulham naming Alvaro Arbeloa following Marco Silva’s departure.
The appointment was announced late on Tuesday night. The club said in a statement that the 43-year-old has agreed a three-year contract running to the summer of 2029.
Silva and winger Harry Wilson left at the end of their contracts, with Silva taking charge of Benfica and Wilson set to join Leeds after agreeing terms on a free transfer. He is expected to be unveiled imminently. Fulham director of football Tony Khan had wanted Wilson to wait for the new appointment, but the Welshman had already decided.
Arbeloa had been tipped for weeks to take over. His coaching journey has run through Real Madrid’s youth teams before a five-month spell in charge of the senior side last season, and this is only his second permanent job.
He described the role as an honour at the oldest club in London, expressed gratitude to Mr Khan and Tony Khan, and looked forward to pre-season next week and the Craven Cottage atmosphere.
Arbeloa now has time to imprint his style before Fulham visit Elland Road on December 19, with the return at Craven Cottage pencilled in for February 27.
