On Saturday, Gabriel Paulista was honoured with a mural in Jardim Eledy, the south São Paulo community where he grew up, featuring him alongside his brother Rogério.

According to Meu Timao, the artwork by graffiti artist Frank shows the brothers linked by a heart and surrounded by houses, a nod to the neighbourhood.

At his unveiling, the defender grew emotional speaking about Rogério, who had hoped to play for Corinthians but died before realising that dream. Gabriel said his own journey has been driven by his brother’s influence.

Encouraged by Rogério, Gabriel emerged at Vitória in 2009. He moved to Villarreal in 2013, then joined Arsenal in 2016 for one season before returning to Spain with Valencia, later featuring for Atlético de Madrid.

In 2024 he joined Besiktas in Türkiye, leaving in January to return to Brazil. Back in São Paulo, the 35-year-old became Corinthians’ first signing for the 2026 season and is preparing to face Velo Clube on Sunday at 20:30 at Estádio Benito Agnelo Castellano in Rio Claro, in the fifth round of the Campeonato Paulista.
