Leeds United have confirmed FC Augsburg as their final Elland Road friendly of the summer, kicking off at 3pm on Saturday 15 August. The Bundesliga side’s visit brings a World Cup reunion for Noah Okafor and Switzerland team-mate Fabian Rieder.
According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Leeds also finalised a meeting with RB Leipzig for Saturday 8 August. The wider schedule pits the Whites against three Premier League opponents, two teams from Europe’s other big five leagues and one Championship club.
In each of Daniel Farke’s previous two pre-seasons, Leeds trained in Germany and played friendlies there, basing themselves at Hotel Klosterpforte in Harsewinkel near his family home. This time, the German clubs are coming to him at Elland Road.
Augsburg finished ninth in the Bundesliga last season, four points short of Europe, and stunned Bayern Munich with a comeback win in January. Their Elland Road visit comes one week before the Premier League season begins. Rieder was their leading scorer last term and is among six Augsburg players at this summer’s World Cup, alongside Michael Gregoritsch of Austria, Croatia’s Kristijan Jakić, Nathanaël Mbuku of DR Congo, and Tunisia’s Ismaël Gharbi and Elias Saad.
Leeds will head to America for matches against Wrexham, Sunderland and Liverpool. They are also returning to Dublin after last summer’s sold-out Aviva Stadium meeting with AC Milan, this time to face Manchester United at Croke Park.
Ticket details for the Leipzig and Augsburg fixtures will follow in due course.
