Leicester City simply have to look to cash in on striker Patson Daka in the January transfer window.

It may be a bit early but clubs will have begun planning for the January transfer window weeks ago and Leicester City will certainly be seeking to be active, with Zambia international striker Patson Daka surely someone now up for sale.

The financial difficulties of Leicester have been well documented in recent times with even talk of a potential points deduction from the EFL, following their relegation from the Premier League.

That led to a slow and quiet summer transfer window which eventually burst into life before the end after the sales of several key first-teamers, such as Conor Coady, Wilfred Ndidi, Mads Hermansen,

Kasey McAteer and James Justin, whilst Bilal El Khannouss and Woyo Coulibaly both departed on initial loan deals.

In terms of incomings, they only brought in Asmir Begovic on a free transfer before the final day of the window when they then managed to complete loan deals for Julian Carranza, Jordan James and

Aaron Ramsey from Feyenoord, Stade Rennais and Burnley, respectively.

Former Queens Park Rangers Marti Cifuentes has been dealt a tough hand but he also does still have a strong squad in a lot of areas, but they are perhaps lacking for quality and depth up-front.

Some further wheeling and dealing will be required in the winter if they are to sustain a genuine promotion challenge, and the sale of Daka could be key to that for Leicester.

Patson Daka’s time at Leicester is surely now up

In the summer of 2021, Leicester City brought in Zambia international striker Patson Daka after a remarkably impressive record for Red Bull Salzburg in the Austrian Bundesliga.

Salzburg are always a good club to look at for smart recruitment and investment purposes due to their renowned development of players, and Daka was certainly a hot prospect for a team that had just won the FA Cup.

However, being behind both Jamie Vardy and Kelechi Iheanacho initially, a rollercoaster ride in terms of Leicester’s overall level, persistent injury issues and his own frustratingly stifled development, Daka hasn’t been able to kick on at the King Power Stadium.

There was hope he could become the main man this season after an injury-hit campaign during their Championship title-winning season in the 2023/24 campaign still saw him manage to notch seven times in 20 second-tier appearances.

However, despite only being 27, his best already appears to be behind him with the former FC Liefering man having failed to score in nine appearances in the Championship so far this season.

Daka, who earns £75,000 per week according to Capology, is one of many players out of contract over the summer and he remains one of their most saleable assets and so, for a variety of reasons, it is now surely time for Leicester to try and cash in.

The sale of Patson Daka could aid Leicester this season

As well as Daka, the likes of Harry Winks and Boubakary Soumare are also among those that are set to depart on a free transfer at the end of this season.

Despite those being fairly big names, Daka, at 27 and with the potential he showed at Salzburg, has to be the player who would most likely command a reasonable fee and interest.

Leicester needed to revamp their squad anyway due to it becoming a bit of a mish-mash, in terms of the profile of players, their positions and ages, with very little semblance of an identity or an idea of what they wanted to be.

Daka, as well as Winks and Soumare, are embodiments of that failure of philosophy, and a need to cash in is also required.

Leicester lost legend Jamie Vardy this summer, too, with the former England international joining Cremonese on a free transfer.

A need to bring in someone that is more consistent and more reliable in terms of being a goal scorer for a promotion challenger is required, and the funds, however minimal, that Daka could bring in are pivotal for Leicester and Cifuentes to try and identify a potential season-defining addition in the winter.
