The Superior Council of the São Paulo Public Prosecutor’s Office met on Tuesday and rejected Corinthians’ appeal to close the case into a possible judicial intervention. According to Meu Timao, the inquiry remains open.
In a submission on 19 December 2025, Corinthians acknowledged financial difficulties but argued there was no basis for intervention. The civil case had been referred by prosecutor Luiz Ambra Neto after he opposed the club’s bid to archive it.
The defence said the club operates regularly with constitutionally protected autonomy, and proposed a Term of Adjustment of Conduct to correct course without removing the current board.
Corinthians also questioned public interest and its cultural heritage status, saying indebtedness is not unique. It cited measures such as rejecting former presidents’ accounts, creating a financial committee, negotiating debts and talks with Caixa over the Neo Química Arena.
Even so, the council kept proceedings alive and will return the file to the state prosecutor’s office. Prosecutor Cássio Conserino, who supports intervention, will have his arguments assessed as officials weigh whether the political, financial and administrative picture justifies the step.
Conserino’s request came in November 2025 amid criminal probes into ex-presidents Andrés Sanchez, Duilio Monteiro Alves and Augusto Melo over alleged corporate card misuse, possible false invoices and the VaideBet case, which led to Melo’s impeachment. Andrés and Duilio were listed as interested parties due to an automatic link from criminal cases, the civil inquiry names only Corinthians.
