Sheffield Wednesday ended a calamitous Championship season with a 2-1 win over West Bromwich Albion, avoiding a negative points total.

Relegated to League One after an 18-point deduction, it was only their second league win and came on the final day. According to L'Équipe, the new owners are American group Arise Capital Partners, fronted by David Storch, Michael Storch and Tom Costin.

They were presented to a record 33,750 at Hillsborough. This handover means Wednesday will begin next season without a points penalty, whereas administration would have brought a 15-point deduction.

Founded in 1867, Wednesday will play in the third tier alongside Leicester, who also went down after finishing 23rd despite a 1-0 win at Blackburn.

Oxford United also made the drop, while Lincoln and Cardiff City secured promotion to the Championship. The third promoted side will be decided via the play-offs.
