1860 boss shocked by fan banner: „FC Bayern insulted me personally“ | OneFootball

Bayern fans display a banner directed against TSV 1860 Munich president Gernot Mang. Now Mang is complaining about it and blaming FC Bayern as a whole.

1860 president Gernot Mang has reacted strongly to a banner displayed by Bayern ultras during FC Bayern’s 6-2 home win against SC Freiburg on Saturday. The slogan was aimed directly at the Lions boss: „MANG has to earn respect. You son of a bitch.“

On Sunday, Mang expressed his anger before his team’s third division match against Saarbrücken on Magenta Sport. „FC Bayern insulted me personally. That’s a far cry from respect. When people call me a son of a bitch, that’s crossing the line. For me, that’s not on any level. I’d like to leave it at that,“ said the 57-year-old.

It was striking that Mang made no distinction between the club and its active fan scene in his criticism. His anger was obviously directed at FC Bayern as a whole. When asked, he continued: „Biting is a bit part of it between the two clubs, but it should be at a certain altitude, at a certain level. That’s not how it should be. But I won’t take legal action against it. I’ll stand up to it.“

Mang was annoyed that Hainer didn’t know him

The conflict had built up over the past few days, triggered by an interview in which Mang accused Bayern President Herbert Hainer of lacking respect after the latter failed to recognise him at an event. „I would say that out of respect, you should already know who you are dealing with. Everyone else knew that. That shows again: a little humility would do this club good,“ said Mang.

Hainer reacted with surprise to the accusations a little later: „To be honest, I don’t understand it at all. I went and greeted him, but unfortunately I didn’t know him. I don’t find it disrespectful at all, I was friendly.“

After this exchange of blows, the Bayern ultras finally came forward on Saturday – with their banner, which has now escalated the dispute further. Mang was shocked, even though he emphasized that he did not want to take legal action.
