Manchester City have today officially confirmed the signing of Allan from Palmeiras. The 22-year-old Brazilian winger has signed a contract which runs until 2031 with City. Allan hasn’t taken the typical route that Brazilian players take to get to Europe. He wasn’t a highly touted youth prospect that had all of the biggest clubs in Europe clamouring for his signature. Instead, Allan has had to overcome adversity and work his way through the Palmeiras system to earn his move to Manchester City. Perhaps, that path may set the hard-working and skilful winger up to succeed on the big stage.

Allan is now officially a Manchester City player. City have signed the winger from Palmeiras. The 22-year-old will come into Enzo Maresca’s squad to provide depth and competition on the right wing. Allan is a hard-working winger who is a threat in one-on-one situations with the ball at his feet. Out of possession, his work rate and ability to win duels and press opponents will be a resource that Enzo Maresca will not hesitate to tap into.
Speaking after signing for Manchester City, Allan was proud to become a City player. He also said he will give everything to his new team and that the hard work has just begun for him. He explained: “This is a surreal moment for me. Manchester City, with everything they have won over the past 15 years, are one of the most attractive clubs in the world for players. To be able to sit here today and say I have joined them is the proudest moment of my life.”
“I love Palmeiras and always will – but the decision to come to City was an easy one, I want to be the best footballer I can be and the conversations I’ve had with the people at City so far has convinced me there isn’t a better place for me to fulfil my ambitions.”
“I want to promise the Manchester City fans I will give absolutely everything to make the most of this opportunity. Now the hard work begins, I will give 100% in training and make the best case possible to the manager I should be playing.”
“My intention is to help City continue winning trophies. If I can do that, it would be a dream come true.”
The path Allan has taken to get to Manchester City isn’t the typical route that a Brazilian player takes to get to Europe. Allan wasn’t a teenage prodigy so to speak. He had to work hard to establish himself in the Palmeiras first-team set up. As a report from Sky Sports points out, Allan thought his dream of playing for Palmeiras was over. Ahead of his final game with Palmeiras’ under-20 side, Allan cried with his parents thinking his time at the club was coming to an end. Instead, Palmeiras manager Abel Ferreira assured him that he had a future at the club.
From there, Allan seized the opportunity on offer to establish himself as an important player for his team. He grew as a player and his impressive performances have eventually earned him a move to Manchester City. The raw statistics don’t tell the story of Allan’s impact for Palmeiras. In 96 appearances for the club he scored 9 goals and provided 12 assists. However, tactically Allan is extremely intelligent and his work rate out of possession has been vital for Palmeiras. In possession, Allan is quick and speedy winger and he should establish himself as a valuable squad member for City in time.
Allan is now officially a Manchester City player. In a way, City’s signing of Allan is a throwback to the way football used to be when unknown Brazilian players would arrive from seemingly nowhere and quickly show their quality. Hopefully, Allan can do that for City.
Looking at the path Allan has taken to get to Manchester, you do feel that it may set him up to succeed as he has had to work hard and overcome adversity to get his dream move. The mental strength he has shown to make it could be vital for him to succeed on the big stage.
