Leeds United are closing in on Nice’s Melvin Bard before Tuesday’s 11pm deadline, and an attacking addition could still follow.

TEAMtalk reports that Wolves have spoken to Leeds, Crystal Palace, Hull City and Burnley about Hwang Hee-chan, with Ipswich opting against a move, and that he is not in Cesar Peixoto’s plans.

Leeds entered deadline day amid growing frustration, having promised investment in attack but, so far, only adding Harry Wilson on a free from Fulham after missing out on players such as Chelsea’s Myhailo Mudryk and Conrad Harder.

With Willy Gnonto spotted in Italy, the need up front has sharpened, and some supporters feel two forwards are required. Relegated to the Championship, Wolves are expected to cash in on several players and Hwang is a candidate to leave before 11pm.

Jesse Marsch previously worked with Hwang at Salzburg and Leeds made an informal £17m offer in summer 2022. He stayed at Molineux, making 150 Wolves appearances, 133 in the Premier League, with 24 goals and seven assists.

Now 30 and 18 caps shy of a century for South Korea, Hwang is versatile across the front line and works tirelessly. Whether he would truly lift Leeds is the key question. Last season he produced two goals and two assists in 26 Premier League matches across 1,455 minutes, which is probably not enough when Leeds need much more.
