Nice defender Mohamed Abdelmonem has been cleared to play again after returning to team training following a long ACL injury layoff.

Medical green light for Abdelmonem

New reports have revealed positive developments regarding Mohamed Abdelmonem and his return to competitive action with OGC Nice.

The Egypt international defender suffered anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in April 2025, near the end of last season which ruled him out for several months.

After a long recovery process, Abdelmonem has now rejoined group training and is moving closer to match action.

According to L'Équipe, Abdelmonem and teammate Youssouf Ndayishimiye have both received medical clearance to feature in Nice’s upcoming friendly match against Grasse on Wednesday.

Gradual return to full training

Abdelmonem and his teammate resumed partial training on 27 January and have been increasing their workload step by step since then.

The club’s medical staff followed careful plan to avoid any setback focusing on fitness, movement and confidence.

On Friday, Nice officially gave Abdelmonem the green light to train fully with first team. The decision is seen as a major boost for the French side who are hoping to benefit from his defensive qualities before the end of the season.

Boost for a struggling Nice side

Nice currently going through difficult campaign in Ligue 1. The club sits 14 in the league table with 23 point after 22 match. They have recorded six win, 11 draw and five defeat scoring 27 goal and conceding 40.

The return of Abdelmonem adds depth and experience to defense that has struggled for consistency. The coaching staff believe his presence could help stabilize the back line during the final stretch of the season.
