Balbuena exit from Grêmio could be blocked by salary | OneFootball

Fabián Balbuena, 34, could leave Grêmio in this transfer window, with Libertad among the clubs showing interest, although his salary may complicate any move. The centre-back is currently out of Luís Castro’s plans.

According to Rádio Guaíba, Libertad head coach, the former forward Haedo Valdez, has put his name forward to the Asunción club’s board.

Balbuena is under contract with Grêmio until 30 June 2027 and is on approximately R$ 750 thousand. Any deal would also require agreement with the Tricolor.

Linked with Grêmio across multiple seasons, including on Renato Portaluppi’s recommendation, he arrived in Porto Alegre in July 2025 as a free agent.

He last featured on 15 May, against Confiança in the second leg of the Copa do Brasil fifth phase. The Paraguayan has 17 appearances, one goal and a Campeonato Gaúcho title for Grêmio.
