Dynamo Moscow’s late U-turn on a €10m, roughly R$60m, deal for Gonzalo Plata stunned Flamengo and cut short recent celebrations. According to Globo.com, it came a day after president Bap had praised the sale in a board meeting.
In that session he voiced relief, suggesting the transfer would spare the club from monitoring the winger’s nightlife to gauge his drinking.
Plata has been tactically important for Filipe Luís and Leonardo Jardim, chiefly for his defensive work on the right and his versatility. Off the pitch, repeated excesses led to lateness and, in March, he was dropped from a matchday squad and publicly admonished by Jardim.
The episode and the airing of internal issues angered the Ecuadorian and his camp, prompting him to remove most Flamengo photos from social media and unfollow the club. In March, at a documentary launch, Bap said there was no intention to sell him.
Jardim later rehabilitated Plata, who became a standout before the World Cup. This term he kept his starting place and featured in both Libertadores round of 16 ties against Cruzeiro.
An official club note welcomed him back to be reintegrated and said the club would pursue appropriate remedies over the handling and devaluation of the deal. Captain Arrascaeta also celebrated the forward’s return on X.
Plata returns to Rio on Wednesday and will miss Mirassol at 19:30 in the Maracanã, a rescheduled round four Brasileirão fixture. He is expected to be available for Jardim against Remo on Sunday at the Mangueirão.
