A Ligue 2 advertising mix-up in Metz put rivals AS Nancy-Lorraine in the spotlight, amusing Nancy fans and irritating Metz, and beIN Sports has apologised.

According to L'Équipe, a Metz supporter spotted in the city a billboard for the Ligue 2 broadcast that featured AS Nancy-Lorraine with the line “Cette saison s'annonce historique”. Images spread quickly on social media.

The official Nancy account replied “Oui” to a Metz fan’s post reading “Sérieusement @beinsports_FR ?”, briefly reigniting the Lorraine derby rivalry.

beIN Sports said the error came from its technical service provider, that it would be fixed as soon as possible, and apologised to supporters of FC Metz and AS Nancy-Lorraine.

The clarification should calm Metz supporters while the billboard is corrected.
