Girondins de Bordeaux remain in limbo over their sporting future after exhausting every route back to N1. An idea to place them in N2 rather than R1 has been floated, but it conflicts with federation rules.

According to L'Équipe, the plan would put the club in N2 Group H in place of Union Foot de Touraine, who have been promoted to N1. It was discussed on Thursday morning before members of the FFF executive committee, convened for a detailed legal update on the protracted Bordeaux case.

The report said there is no regulatory basis for such a change, and that it would carry a high risk of challenges from other N1 and N2 clubs.

In the appeals against the club’s relegation, decisions by the DNCG appeals body, the CNOSF and the administrative court have all gone in the FFF’s favour.

The FFF has declined to comment, but there is irritation inside the federation at the stance of Bordeaux’s hierarchy and its soon-to-be former shareholders.
