Brentford have submitted an offer for Burnley winger Jaidon Anthony, with talks ongoing over the fee.

It is their second winger bid of the summer. The Athletic reported last month that they had also moved for FC Koln’s Said El Mala, but negotiations did not progress.

Last summer Brentford sold Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa to Manchester United and Newcastle United for a combined sum of over £100million. Dango Ouattara arrived from Bournemouth as Mbeumo’s replacement and Reiss Nelson joined on a season-long loan from Arsenal. Nelson struggled for form and fitness, making 10 appearances that totalled 118 minutes.

Anthony, 26, is viewed as competition and cover for Ouattara, Kevin Schade and Keane Lewis-Potter. He scored eight goals and supplied two assists in 37 outings for Burnley last season.

Brentford exceeded expectations by finishing in the top half in Keith Andrews’ first season in charge. They missed out on European football, ending level on points with Brighton who reached the Conference League on goal difference and one behind Sunderland who claimed a Europa League place.

Momentum ebbed during a run of five successive draws between March and April. The attack leaned heavily on Igor Thiago and Ouattara, while prospects Kaye Furo and Gustavo Nunes remain talented but raw.

Pursuing Anthony aligns with that context. Predominantly a left winger, he can also operate centrally behind a striker and would give Andrews an experienced option at a relatively low cost.
