This summer 2025 transfer window saw Premier League clubs targeting Bundesliga players.

A lot of money spent on a lot of players from German top tier clubs.

So how successful, or not, have these Bundesliga players proved so far in England with their new teams?

A new report has ranked them.

How well these Bundesliga players have got on with their Premier League clubs, since arriving this summer.

Andy Brassell is an expert on European football and for Talksport he has rated these ten Bundesliga players on their contribution and how they have looked generally, since arriving at their Premier League clubs this summer.

8. Jamie Gittens – 5/10 (Borussia Dortmund to Chelsea)

7. Florian Wirtz/ 6. Jeremie Frimpong – 5/10 (Both Bayer Leverkusen to Liverpool)

5. Anton Stach – 6/10 (Hoffenheim to Leeds)

4. Benjamin Sesko – 6.5/10 (RB Leipzig to Man U)

3. Hugo Ekitike / 2. Nick Woltemade – 8.5/10 (Eintracht Frankfurt to Liverpool and Stuttgart to Newcastle United)

1. Granit Xhaka – 8.5 (Bayer Leverkusen to Sunderland)

The European football expert explaining his thoughts on Hugo Ekitike and Nick Woltemade:

Ironically, two strikers intertwined with Alexander Isak have both flourished at the start of this season, while he has struggled.

Ekitike and Woltemade have each netted six times in all competitions since their moves to Liverpool and Newcastle, respectively.

“I knew they’d both be good,” Brassell said. “But the speed with which they’ve been good and the speed with which they’ve become important to their teams is super impressive.

“Whereas Ekitike has been great straight away, I’ve been surprised that A, Woltemade has treated the pressure like it’s nothing, and B, seeing him realising that he has got a long way to go, and he can get better and better and better, I think probably makes him the pick so far.

“So, if we’re talking about how they’ve adapted, I would give both Woltemade and Ekitike 8.5 out of 10.

“But if I had to rate the player who’s going to be long-term, the player who’s going to be the better Premier League striker, I think I’d go Woltemade by a whisker, because there’s such a high ceiling.

“So, I think that’s huge – Woltemade’s just above Ekitike on the two 8.5s…I guess Woltemade goes first because he’s a bit taller!”

My thoughts

Not sure how the European football expert rated Benjamin Sesko so highly, he has looked abysmal since joining Man U. A lucky escape for Newcastle United.

I think both Nick Woltemade and Hugo Ekitike have done really well, especially for young relatively inexperienced players.

(***I have to admit that when scanning the list, I was initially outraged that Malick Thiaw hadn’t even made the top ten. Then I remembered that this was a list of those signed from German clubs and NOT German players who had been signed by Premier League teams!)
