CD Castellón missed out on the promotion final after an added time strike in Almería, but the dressing room quickly set a different tone, mixing apology, pride and a promise to come back.
El Periódico Mediterráneo reports that social media became the outlet for several players, who rejected excuses and resignation and presented themselves as hurt, not defeated. Raúl Sánchez, Jérémy Mellot, Ousmane Camara, Álex Calatrava and Diego Barri led the messages.
Sánchez, the winger, wrote that the club has gripped him more than he imagined. He apologised for not delivering promotion, described the squad as an incredible, united family and recalled his Alcorcón experience, losing a play-off final then winning promotion the following season by taking the league.
Mellot called it a painful end and expressed deep sadness at not giving supporters a promotion to LaLiga. Camara said they had a dream and an objective, and that they fell short, while underlining that the passion and loyalty in the stands never went unnoticed.
Álex Calatrava reflected that this is a season he will always remember, noting Castellón fought to the end without the reward of a final. Diego Barri added a footballer’s take, saying you cannot choose to win or lose in sport, only how you do it. The collective message was clear, Almería should be a scar to build on, not a full stop.
