Biscay’s clubs in the Copa del Rey first round now know their potential opponents.

According to El Correo, the Spanish federation has again applied proximity criteria, placing Athletic, Barakaldo, Amorebieta, Sestao and Portugalete in group two.

Athletic could face the winners of Calatayud v Baztan, Aragón and Navarra, first leg 2-0, San Rafel v Prat, Baleares and Aragón, 1-5, or Anaitasuna v Tedeón, Gipuzkoa and La Rioja, 5-0, as well as Sestao, who arrive via the Copa Federación. Alavés, Osasuna and Espanyol are the other Primera clubs in this group.

Barakaldo, from Primera Federación, will almost certainly draw Segunda Federación opposition. Amorebieta and Portugalete will face Primera Federación sides, while Sestao will play a Primera club.

The ties are planned for the final week of October, scheduled for Wednesday 28, with exact dates adjusted to the calendar. Before then, Athletic host Getafe on Sunday 25, then Real Sociedad the following weekend, both at San Mamés.

Matches will be staged at the ground of the lower-tier team, provided it meets Spanish Football Federation requirements. If both clubs are in the same category, the side drawn first will be at home.
