Corinthians president Osmar Stabile says the club are awaiting a formal Nottingham Forest bid for André Luiz, amid mounting financial strain and ongoing SAFiel discussions.

"They said they will send a proposal by today, and we are waiting. I cannot talk about values, negotiations must remain confidential until execution," said Stabile, speaking to ESPN on Friday.

Forest could offer up to £16 million, with £13 million guaranteed and £3 million in add-ons. Corinthians are considering a sale now but keeping him until year end, though a loan is impossible until three transfer bans are cleared, and one option is to complete the deal only in 2027.

Also on Friday the club moved to settle part of overdue image rights with the women’s team, who were owed two months plus bonuses from the 2025 Libertadores, the Copa das Campeãs and the 2026 Brasileirão. "Salaries are up to date today, and we are paying one of the two months owed in women’s image rights," he said.

The men’s squad received one of two late months of image rights on Monday, with competition bonuses and the remaining image rights still outstanding. That portion of contracts costs about R$ 10 million per month.

Stabile linked the strain to three active transfer bans, two from FIFA and one from the CBF, totalling about R$ 21.5 million, including a missed CNRD instalment of R$ 8 million and sums due on Charles and José Martínez. "We have spent R$ 770 million tackling liabilities and reduced tax debt from R$ 1.2 billion to R$ 650 million. It was not me who started this," he said.

"Corinthians are up to date with Caixa, we have already paid R$ 52 million this year and set aside R$ 27 million in a reserve fund," Stabile said. Under a 2022 deal, the club pay quarterly instalments of R$ 20 million to R$ 30 million, with the 2025 accounts listing R$ 642 million still owed.

He confirmed a first official four-hour meeting with SAFiel this week to clarify the project. "We talked for four hours, set out our doubts and will send hundreds more questions."

A non-binding proposal outlined raising R$ 2.5 billion, potentially R$ 3 billion, for debts, sporting investment and infrastructure. Stabile insisted, "Bring R$ 600 million, pay the Arena, bring the binding paper and I will sign."

An online petition backing SAFiel has attracted more than 106,000 signatures.
