Fernando Diniz prepares Corinthians to face Internacional after the international break under mounting pressure, with a winless run mirroring the sequence that cost Dorival Júnior his job in the first round.
According to Globo.com, both downturns began against Cruzeiro, then continued without victory against Coritiba, Santos, Chapecoense, Flamengo and Fluminense.
Diniz’s last win came against Red Bull Bragantino on 9 August. Under Dorival, the previous final victory was over Athletico-PR in a round two fixture that was rearranged and played after round three.
Across this stretch, Diniz has suffered six defeats. Dorival’s version returned four draws and two defeats.
Dorival was dismissed on 5 April after a 1-0 home loss to Internacional in the 10th round, which marked a seventh straight match without a win.
Corinthians resume the league away to Internacional on Wednesday in the 29th round, kicking off at 19:30, Brasília time, at Beira-Rio in Porto Alegre.
Before the break, football executive Marcelo Paz backed Diniz to stay, with president Osmar Stabile in agreement and senior squad figures asking for his continuity. Even so, the need for a result is acute, with Corinthians on 32 points in 14th place, three ahead of Grêmio, the first side in the relegation zone.
