Santos explore Emerson Palmieri return from Marseille as deal proves difficult | OneFootball

According to Diario Do Peixe, Santos are attempting to bring back left-back Emerson Palmieri from Olympique de Marseille, where he is under contract until June 2027. The deal is viewed as difficult, particularly by the player's camp, given his market in Europe.

With the window open until 11 September, Marseille are looking to move players. Santos would only be able to proceed if the French club agreed to a free transfer or a loan with only his wages covered.

Juventus and Fiorentina have contacted Marseille to gauge his situation. During the last European off-season, Emerson was in touch with Santos.

He received a club shirt in 2021, then in 2023 was honoured as the first player to win all UEFA club trophies, having lifted the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League. In 2024 he congratulated the club on promotion, visited CT Rei Pelé last year and in May this year watched the win over Deportivo Cuenca at Vila Belmiro.

Born in Santos and now 32, the left-footer came through the club's academy and debuted for the first team in 2011. He won the Copinha in 2013 and the Paulistão in 2011 and 2012, recording three goals and four assists in 33 senior games after beginning in midfield before switching to left-back.

He later had loans to Palermo and Roma, then joined Roma permanently before signing for Chelsea, from where he was loaned to Lyon. He moved to West Ham prior to Marseille and, after representing Brazil at under-17 level, took Italian citizenship and plays for Italy.
