Santos face former left-back Felipe Jonatan when Coritiba visit Vila Belmiro on Wednesday 22 at 19:30, the first leg of the Copa do Brasil fifth phase. According to Diario Do Peixe, the 28-year-old could invoke the ‘lei do ex’ against the Peixe.

Jonatan played for Santos from 2019 to 2024, making 211 appearances with six goals and 13 assists. During his six years at the club he earned Brazil Under-23 recognition and, under Jorge Sampaoli, was occasionally used infield.

His contract was terminated midway through the year before last, with a swap agreed with Fortaleza that took him to Leão and brought the Argentine Escobar in on a permanent deal, and he remains with the team.

Born in Fortaleza, he spent his youth spells with Fortaleza, Ceará and Bahia. He debuted professionally for Ceará in 2017, impressing before a March 2019 move to Santos after a R$ six million clause was met. As a Santos player he received his first Under-23 call-up.

That year he contested the starting spot with Jorge and held it. In 2022 he shared duties with Lucas Pires, then consolidated the role until an anterior cruciate ligament injury the following year. He then lost ground and moved on, taking a loan at Mirassol before joining Coritiba permanently this year.
