Feyenoord have confirmed the arrival of Javi Lopez on loan from Real Sociedad.

The deal for the 24-year-old left-back includes an option to buy, as Giovanni van Bronckhorst jostles with the injuries to Jordan Bos and Gijs Smal.

A Tenerife native, Lopez moved away from the Blanquiazules’ youth set-up to progress further at the academy of Deportivo Alaves. An eventual senior, he played 92 matches across four years, scoring once.

In the summer of 2024, Real Sociedad paid approximately 6.5 million euros for him. Alas, first-team chances stalled after 29 league games in the 2024-25 campaign. Last season, Lopez was out on loan at Real Oviedo.

In Lopez, De Kuip welcomes its third Spanish signing. He follows both Nacho Ferri (from Westerlo) and Mika Marmol (from Las Palmas).

Lopez spoke to the Rotterdam club’s media, saying: “It makes me proud to play for a big and ambitious club like Feyenoord. I can’t wait to join the group, because I want to be of value to the club, my teammates, and the supporters as soon as possible.

“I will give everything in this shirt to experience great moments and successes together.”
