Real Sociedad have confirmed that Javi López has joined Feyenoord on a season-long loan. He arrived in 2024 and is contracted to the club until 2030.

The deal includes a 7 million euros purchase option, and the club said in a statement that Feyenoord must compensate Real if an agreed minimum of minutes is not met.

López completed a full pre-season, playing in every friendly except the last and avoiding injuries. He missed Chelsea as the move neared completion and spoke of pride, urgency and total commitment.

Feyenoord are short at left-back, with Jordan Bos out until January with a knee injury. Gijs Smal has no return date due to an ankle problem, so Giovanni van Bronckhorst used Mika Marmol at left-back in the first two league games.

At Real, Sergio Gómez is first choice and Aihen the back-up, though a summer exit for him was discussed. After pre-season assessment, Matarazzo did not include the former Alavés player in his plans, so a loan was chosen. The club also declined Caleta-Car’s option, let Aritz go and sold Brais to the United States.

This is López’s second successive loan since arriving two summers ago. He spent last season at Oviedo, who were relegated to Segunda, with mixed performances.

It is his first move outside Spain, to a club who will play in the Champions League after finishing second last season. The destination underlines his market, though returns have not matched a 6.5 million signing.
