Flamengo have announced the signing of Joaquin Freitas from River Plate, their second addition of the window. The 19-year-old forward will wear number 30 and provide immediate cover for Pedro.

Paparazzo Rubro-Negro reports that the deal is worth seven million euros, about R$ 42 million, for 80% of the player’s economic rights, with River Plate retaining the remainder.

Regarded as a promising Argentine talent, Freitas has featured in 64 senior matches, scoring 12 and supplying five assists. He arrives with scope to develop further.

Even so, he joins as an option rather than a guaranteed starter. Pedro remains first choice in attack.

The move comes against a tight Conmebol deadline. Flamengo face Independiente del Valle in the Libertadores quarter-finals and must register Freitas before the list closes on Friday.

There is no assurance he will make an immediate debut in the competition. His paperwork needs to be completed promptly.

While the Libertadores schedule adds urgency, the club views the deal as a long-term play and hopes to finalise all formalities this week. The signing increases attacking depth for the run-in, and internal competition could lift the frontline as Freitas adapts to Brazilian football.
