Flamengo have signed striker Joaquín Freitas on a contract running to 2031, with the former River Plate talent set to wear number 30. The club announced the deal on social media.
The transfer is structured at around $7 million fixed, with a further $2 million in bonuses, equivalent to R$ 36.31 million and R$ 10.38 million at current rates.
Freitas landed at Rio de Janeiro’s Galeão Airport on Monday morning to present himself and sign. He completed the final formalities after visiting the Ninho do Urubu training complex.
In his recent outings under Eduardo Coudet, dismissed last week after their Sudamericana exit, Freitas featured on the right wing but looked sharper as a second striker. In youth football he operated more as a centre-forward. He has been called up by Argentina for friendlies preparing for the 2026 World Cup.
Flamengo are racing to register reinforcements. The Brazilian transfer window stays open until 11 September, but Conmebol’s deadline for Libertadores quarter-final registrations is 4 September. Leonardo Jardim’s side face Independiente del Valle, the champions of Ecuador who have won their last 16 matches.
