Flamengo are awaiting the arrival of 19-year-old River Plate forward Joaquin Freitas in Rio de Janeiro on Monday morning, with live coverage at Galeão Airport.

According to Coluna Do Fla, he is scheduled to land at 8:55 Brasília time at Galeão, where reporter Rodrigo Lima is on site to broadcast his arrival.

Once in Rio, Freitas will undergo medical tests before signing his contract with Flamengo as their second addition of the current window.

The deal is worth 7 million euros, R$ 42 million, for 80 per cent of the player’s rights. River Plate retain 20 per cent of his economic rights and have secured a sell-on percentage should Flamengo move him on in future.

Freitas faced Flamengo in a friendly in Portugal during the 2026 inter-season period, a game that allowed the club to assess him closely and left decision-makers impressed. Internally, Flamengo view the forward as sharing traits with Lautaro Martínez of Inter Milan, which has heightened expectations around the move.

Even so, Freitas arrives as cover rather than a starter. He will be Pedro’s immediate deputy, with added competition likely to raise standards in attack.
