Flamengo presented forwards Anthony Valencia and Joaquín Freitas to supporters on the Maracanã pitch before Wednesday’s meeting with Mirassol, a day after their official announcement.
According to Globo.com, neither was listed on the BID in time for the rescheduled fourth-round Campeonato Brasileiro fixture. Both were registered on Wednesday and will only be eligible to play from Sunday’s game against Remo at the Mangueirão.
The pair walked the turf and waved to fans alongside the club’s two mascots. They then watched the match from the stands.
The 19-year-old Freitas is viewed as the bigger prospect after a rapid rise at River Plate. Figures cited vary, with an initial seven million dollars, about R$ 36.31 million, plus roughly two million dollars, about R$ 10.38 million, in bonuses, while another figure given is 15 million dollars, about R$ 77.14 million. Flamengo have acquired 80% of his rights.
Valencia arrives from Royal Antwerp for about five million euros, about R$ 30.08 million, and is regarded as a scouting pick. He comes in to replace Plata, sold to Dynamo Moscow of Russia. The 23-year-old came through Independiente del Valle and was called up by Ecuador for the 2026 World Cup, though he did not play.
