Franco Armani, 39, has decided to end his eight-year stint at River Plate and, according to SuperDepor.com, has an agreement to return to Atlético Nacional.

The goalkeeper departs after 366 appearances and 10 trophies. He joined River in early 2018 and made an immediate impact.

His form earned a World Cup call from Jorge Sampaoli. He replaced Wilfredo Caballero after the first two games, starting against Nigeria and in the 4-3 last-16 loss to France.

Armani later went 965 minutes without conceding, surpassing Amadeo Carrizo’s 788. He excelled in the 2018 Libertadores, denying Darío Benedetto late in the first leg before River beat Boca 3-1 in the Madrid return at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Santiago Beltrán, 21, will continue in goal after breaking through this year and earning an Argentina call-up. Armani started at the 2019 Copa América and was back-up in the 2021 and 2024 editions, the Finalissima and Qatar 2022.

The move would take him back to Atlético Nacional de Medellín, where he played from 2010 to 2017. He kept 105 clean sheets in 249 games, winning 13 titles including the 2016 Libertadores and three league crowns.
