Gabriel Martinelli becomes Arsenal’s record sale with £60m Al-Hilal move | OneFootball

Gabriel Martinelli has left Arsenal after seven years at the club, completing a £60 million move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal.

The Brazil international’s departure makes him Arsenal’s most expensive outgoing transfer, surpassing the £40m the Gunners received for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain when he joined Liverpool in 2017.

Martinelli arrived from Brazilian side Ituano in July 2019 and went on to make 278 appearances for Arsenal, scoring 62 goals. He was also part of the squad that finally ended the club’s long wait for another Premier League title last season.

The 25-year-old also lifted the FA Cup in 2020 and the Community Shield three years later during his time in North London.

His exit follows that of fellow left-sided forward Leandro Trossard, who recently joined Besiktas, with Martinelli having slipped down the pecking order at the Emirates.

The winger now heads to Al-Hilal, joining a squad packed with familiar names from English football, including Ollie Watkins and Crysencio Summerville.

Martinelli’s performances for Arsenal also earned him regular involvement with Brazil. He has represented his country at the 2022 and 2026 World Cups and currently has 27 international caps.

After seven years in North London, Martinelli now begins a new chapter in Saudi Arabia.
