According to L'Équipe, Grégory Poirier has been appointed FC Nantes head coach in place of Michel Der Zakarian. He was presented on Thursday, two days before a crucial trip to Guingamp at the Roudourou on Saturday at 20:00 in Ligue 2 matchday four.

Speaking at La Jonelière at midday, the 44-year-old struck a cautious tone after two days in the job. He takes over with Nantes bottom after three defeats in as many league matches.

He described an unusual situation on both the table and human fronts after recent coaching changes. Poirier said Nantes is a source of pride and an opportunity for him, and that he aims to inject new energy, Ligue 2 know-how and freshness.

He felt the recruitment had been good so far, though incomplete, and said needs existed on almost every line. Before signing he already viewed the window positively, and he has found a group below its objectives and affected.

Poirier observed that Nantes have good players who are not yet playing as a team. Building a strong collective, he said, is his responsibility, while some players, including recent arrivals, may need to question themselves and do better.

On promotion, he maintained the objective remains the same. There are many matches and points left, he noted, but the short-term focus is on the ingredients that can tilt games towards victory. Nantes have started poorly and some teams are nine points ahead, so he wants efficiency in terms of points.
