Grêmio are close to confirming the return of academy product Tetê after tabling a loan bid to Panathinaikos.
According to Globo.com, the Brazilian club have an agreement in principle with the forward, but the move hinges on the Greek side, who are not inclined to approve a loan.
Talks with Panathinaikos are expected to run on without a quick resolution. The one-season loan offer includes a payment for the release and an option to buy.
There is an understanding that agent Pablo Bueno, despite past difficulties with the club, could assist and may travel to Greece to advance the deal.
Grêmio’s financial position, with limited scope for major spending, is a concern, so the club are treating the situation with caution. Tetê is in Porto Alegre for the end‑of‑year holidays.
Developed at Grêmio, Tetê was sold to a Ukrainian club in 2019 for 10 million euros without making a senior appearance. He later featured for Lyon in France, Leicester in England, Galatasaray in Türkiye and now Panathinaikos in Greece.
For Panathinaikos this season he has played 27 matches, scoring two goals with seven assists. Last season he made 49 appearances, registering 11 goals and three assists.
