Groupama Stadium in Décines has been chosen to stage the 2028 UEFA Women’s Champions League final.
UEFA confirmed the decision on Tuesday, with the showpiece to follow Warsaw in 2027 and head to Décines the year after.
The ground had been picked two years after its inauguration to host the 2018 men’s Europa League final, where Atlético Madrid beat Marseille 3-0.
It later staged the semi-finals and final of the 2019 Women’s World Cup, and 11 matches across the men’s and women’s football tournaments at Paris 2024.
OL said the choice rewards the commitment of the club, its president Michele Kang, the FFF and the city of Lyon to developing and promoting women’s football at the highest level. Kang called it a major victory and a source of pride, and said the recognition reflects years of work and the exceptional fervour of supporters.
She added that OL Lyonnes work daily to raise standards and in 2028 will aim to deliver a memorable event for players and fans, inspiring future generations. Her dream for 2028 is to see OL’s women lift the trophy at home, though the immediate target is to achieve it in 2027 in Warsaw, Poland, after a recent setback in Oslo.
