Harry Kane has described 2025-2026 as the best season of his life after a stellar campaign with Bayern Munich and England, while saying he is not focused on individual honours despite being a leading Ballon d'Or candidate.

"I have never liked talking too much about myself. The only thing I would say is that last season was incredible, both personally and for the team," Kane said. The interview was published by Marca on Friday.

Kane said he was proud of his 73-goal haul, the highest since Lionel Messi hit 82 in 2011-2012, but added it might still not be enough to be recognised as the world's best player.

No Englishman has won the Ballon d'Or since Michael Owen in 2001, and Kane faces fierce competition with Lamine Yamal and Kylian Mbappé also in contention. "The Ballon d'Or does not depend on me, it all depends on the voters," he said.

As far as he is concerned, last season is now behind him. "I am focused on this one and I look forward to seeing what I can still achieve," he added. The winner will be revealed at the awards ceremony on 26 October.
