Jean Butez, 31, gets first France call-up, oldest first-timer since 1976 | OneFootball

Jean Butez has been called up by France for the first time at 31 after Robin Risser withdrew with a rib injury. The Como goalkeeper joins Zinédine Zidane's squad at Clairefontaine.

According to Statsdufoot, Butez, 31 years and 3 months, is the oldest player to receive a first France call-up in 50 years. The previous case was Gérard Farison of AS Saint-Étienne in 1976, aged 32 years and 1 month.

A product of LOSC, Butez never made a senior appearance for the club. He left for Belgium in 2017 to join Mouscron.

Royal Antwerp signed him in 2020, where he became the number one and played 170 matches.

He is now at Como under head coach Cesc Fabregas, keeping 26 clean sheets in 68 appearances, although he has yet to register one this season.
