Flamengo are close to announcing the signing of River Plate forward Joaquin Freitas, with the 19-year-old landing in Rio on Monday morning.

According to Coluna Do Fla, the offer to River Plate is 7 million euros, R$ 42 million. Paparazzo Rubro-Negro reports that Flamengo would hold 80 percent of the player’s economic rights.

Speaking during his departure in Argentina, Freitas said his time at River was very positive and thanked the fans and the club. He described the move as something that happened quickly and said he intends to make the most of the opportunity.

He added that he wants to adapt as fast as possible, earn the minutes he expects and, if possible, welcome a title. The forward said he is ready to play where needed, whether as a centre-forward, winger or midfielder, and noted he has not yet spoken to Agustín Rossi or Nico De La Cruz but plans to do so on arrival.

Freitas will undergo medical tests and, if approved, sign his contract. Flamengo are racing to register him for the Copa Libertadores quarter-finals against Independiente Del Valle of Ecuador.
