Joaquín Freitas landed at Galeão Airport in Rio de Janeiro on Monday morning to report and sign a contract with Flamengo. The 19-year-old Argentine arrives from River Plate.

According to Globo.com, he will be another reinforcement for the remainder of the season. He follows Anthony Valencia, who arrived on Sunday, with both among the replacements for Gonzalo Plata, sold to Dynamo Moscow in recent days.

In recent outings under Eduardo Coudet, who was dismissed this week after the club’s Copa Sudamericana elimination, Freitas featured on the right wing. He has been more effective operating as a second striker.

He has also been called up by Argentina for friendly matches preparing for the 2026 World Cup.

Flamengo are racing to complete their business. The transfer window in Brazil remains open until 11 September, but CONMEBOL’s deadline to register players for the Libertadores quarter-finals is 4 September.

Leonardo Jardim’s side face Independiente del Valle, the champions of Ecuador, who have won their last 16 games.
