Joaquin Freitas arrived in Rio de Janeiro on Monday morning to complete his move to Flamengo, with the 19-year-old already being lined up for upcoming matches.

According to Coluna Do Fla, the forward will undergo medical tests before heading to Ninho do Urubu to sign his contract.

The fee is seven million euros, R$ 42 million, payable to River Plate. Flamengo will control 80% of the forward’s rights, while River keep 20% of his economic rights.

The Argentine club have also secured a sell-on percentage, meaning they would profit if Flamengo sell him in future, a clause common in South American deals.

Freitas faced Flamengo in a friendly in Portugal during the 2026 mid-season break, giving the Rio side a close look at him. Club directors were impressed by his attributes.

Internally, Flamengo see similarities with Lautaro Martínez of Inter Milan, which has heightened expectations around the signing. Even so, Freitas arrives as back-up, the immediate understudy to Pedro, with added competition expected to raise standards in attack.
