According to Coluna Do Fla, Joaquin Freitas is due to land in Rio de Janeiro on Monday morning to complete a move to Flamengo. The 19-year-old River Plate forward is expected at Galeão Airport from 8:55 Brasília time, then he is set to undergo medical tests and sign.
Flamengo’s offer is €7 million, R$ 42 million, to River Plate. The deal gives the Brazilian club 80% of the player’s rights, while River keep 20% of his economic rights and a sell-on percentage.
Freitas faced Flamengo in a friendly in Portugal during the 2026 mid-season, a match that allowed the Rio club to study him closely. The board were impressed and internally liken him to Lautaro Martínez of Inter de Milão (ITA).
Even so, Freitas arrives as cover rather than a starter. He is planned as immediate back-up to Pedro, with added competition expected to lift the forward line.
Flamengo have also brought in Anthony Valencia, 23, who reached Rio on Sunday night (30). The club are moving to register the Ecuadorian quickly, and Leonardo Jardim will decide on any minutes against Mirassol on Wednesday (02).
Valencia fills the slot left by Gonzalo Plata, sold to Dínamo de Moscou (RUS) for €12 million, R$ 72 million. He has been with Royal Antwerp (BEL) since 2022, playing 84 matches and scoring 13 goals.
