After a brief period of relative calm, the Owls’ financial peril is apparent once more, as players weren’t paid on time for the month of September.

This marks the fifth time in seven months that owner Dejphon Chansiri has fallen short in this department, which has led to consistent calls for the Thai businessman to sell the club.

The Steel City side are currently under six different embargoes, as well as a fee-paying transfer restriction until the summer of 2027 and change doesn’t look to be on the way anytime soon.

Chansiri has named his valuation of Sheffield Wednesday at £100 million, which is an amount deemed to be too excessive by any interested parties.

One of these potential buyers is John Textor, an ex-Crystal Palace stakeholder who has reportedly held talks with Chansiri over a sale. However, these talks are rumoured to have stalled somewhat.

Textor has now shed some light on the situation himself and how the situation is progressing from his point of view.

It was reported earlier this year that Textor was raising funds to buy Sheffield Wednesday, as he looked to get back into the English game following his departure from Crystal Palace.

That pursuit has since cooled somewhat, but the reasoning behind why that’s happened has now been revealed.

When recently speaking to journalist Alan Myers, the American businessman opened up on how difficult negotiations have been regarding a Wednesday takeover and how the club’s current state also complicates matters.

“It’s really complicated,” stated Textor. “Wednesday are one of the clubs we are looking at.

“It’s not like I wouldn’t love to come in tomorrow, but they’re in a very difficult situation.

“There’s a lot to figure out with the owner. There is a lot to figure out with the league itself.

“There’s not a lot of time to figure it out. It seems like half to two-thirds of that squad is under the age of 21. By the time we can even get in and address things, if we were to reach a deal with the club, I hope it’s not too late.”

Sheffield Wednesday supporters will be desperate for John Textor takeover talks to progress

Chansiri has been in charge of Sheffield Wednesday for a decade now, a time period which has seen the club slowly fade in competitiveness and ultimately suffer relegation to League One.

Despite that, the past few months of the Thai businessman’s reign would’ve been by far the most tormenting for the Hillsborough faithful.

They’ve had to watch on as their best players departed Wednesday, either on a free or for a very reduced deal, with the prospect of another relegation to League One now a grave possibility.

Even more than that, the very existence of their club has been called into question due to Chansiri’s antics, which is a far more heartbreaking prospect than any potential relegation poses.

Therefore, all Wednesday supporters will be hoping that somehow, Textor can make a breakthrough in negotiations with their club’s current owner and finalise an agreement on a takeover.

Even if they did suffer relegation to League One this season, the thought of a fresh, new start under Textor would breed immense positivity and give fans real hope that they could eventually fight towards the top of the second-tier once more.
