José Boto sets Flamengo renewal queue after Erick Pulgar signs to 2029 | OneFootball

Flamengo director of football José Boto has set out the club’s renewal queue after Erick Pulgar agreed a new deal to 2029, with attention now turning to Pedro and Léo Pereira, both contracted until 2027.

According to Coluna Do Fla, Boto outlined during the unveiling of Anthony Valencia and Joaquín Freitas at the Ninho do Urubu that Pulgar was handled first, Pedro should follow, then Léo Pereira, stressing this cannot be completed in a single day.

Pulgar recently extended despite lucrative proposals from the Middle East. The Chilean turned down the biggest contract of his career to remain with the Rubro-Negro, with Shabab Al-Ahli and Al-Jazira of the United Arab Emirates unable to sway him.

Pedro, 29, has been at Flamengo since 2021, initially on loan from Fiorentina before a permanent move worth €14m, around R$ 87m at the time. His last renewal came in 2023.

He has 177 goals and 45 assists in 351 appearances for the club, is the modern era’s leading scorer and holds the single season Libertadores record with 12 in 2022.

Léo Pereira, 30, arrived in 2020 from Athletico-PR in a €7m deal, about R$ 34.2m, and also renewed most recently in 2023.

The centre-back has 18 goals and five assists in 315 games, and is regarded by many supporters as an idol. Flamengo aim to avoid late scrambles by starting talks early with key players, mirroring the Pulgar approach, though no deadline has been set for Pedro or Léo Pereira.
