Juventus are ready to sanction a loan exit for Teun Koopmeiners, a move that could free up the financial room to sign Franck Kessié.

According to calciomercato.com, the Netherlands midfielder has slipped further down Luciano Spalletti’s pecking order and has been on the list of sellable players since the start of the window.

The problem, however, has been his weight on the balance sheet. As of 30 June 2026, Koopmeiners’s residual book value stood at around €31m, meaning a permanent sale would require an offer of at least that figure simply to avoid a loss.

Juventus open to Koopmeiners loan to unlock Kessié deal

With the market for the Dutchman frozen at those numbers, Juventus have changed tack.

Chief executive Giovanni Carnevali and sporting director Frederic Massara are now open to a loan with an option to buy, set at no less than €21m, his residual value as of June 2027, and potentially higher.

The hope is that Koopmeiners can find a new home, ideally in Serie A, with a return to Atalanta a natural possibility: it was there that the Dutchman flourished before Cristiano Giuntoli, now the Bergamo club’s sporting director, took him to Juventus.

Crucially, his departure, even on loan, would ease the wage bill and open space for Kessié, a long-standing target for Spalletti.

Koopmeiners currently costs Juventus around €16m a year once amortisation and salary are combined, whereas Kessié, available on a free transfer, would come in at under €10m gross annually. It is a straightforward piece of financial logic that could shape the next phase of Juventus’s midfield rebuild.
