Jürgen Klopp says he has not yet spoken to Leon Goretzka or Leroy Sané after leaving both out of his first 44-man selection for Germany’s four upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures. According to BuLi News, the omissions came for different reasons.

Speaking at a press conference, Klopp said Sané was excluded for performance reasons. He added he will speak to the winger, but has not done so yet.

On Goretzka, Klopp explained he has not contacted him either. The midfielder had already announced he would be unavailable due to injury.

Klopp noted he has taken more than 50 or 60 phone calls and said any conversations need substance rather than simple introductions. If there is something to discuss, he will talk.

Both Sané and Goretzka were part of Germany’s World Cup squad under Julian Nagelsmann. The pair are former Bayern Munich players.
