Lazio are reportedly making important strides in their quest to sign Andrea Pinamonti, who is more likely to join than Mauro Icardi.
The Biancocelesti have accelerated their market operations in the final two weeks of the summer transfer market. Last Friday, they finalised Davide Frattesi’s move from AC Milan. Earlier on Wednesday, they made a significant breakthrough in their negotiations with Ajax for Croatian defender Josip Sutalo, who is now close to signing for the Italian capital.
Nevertheless, Gennaro Gattuso had reiterated that bolstering the attack should be the club’s ultimate objective this summer, as none of his current centre-forward options has managed to convince him in pre-season.
According to Italian journalist Damiano Er Faina, Lazio have finalised their agreement with Pinamonti on personal terms. The Sassuolo striker is said to be eager to join Gattuso’s ranks, and is hoping to push his way out of the Mapei Stadium. His head coach, Alberto Aquilani, had confirmed that the 27-year-old has requested a transfer.
The next step for Lazio is to find an agreement with Sassuolo. The issue is that the Aquile’s tight finances mean they could only sign players on loan with an option or an obligation to buy next summer, but Pinamonti’s contract will expire in June 2027. Therefore, a temporary formula would only be plausible if the striker extends his deal with the Neroverdi before leaving.
Moreover, Italian journalist Matteo Moretto (via La Lazio Siamo Noi) has also confirmed that the Biancocelesti are going all-in for Pinamonti, especially after giving up on Icardi. The Argentine free agent is currently considered out of the running, as he continues to bide his time while waiting for other suitors to express their interest.
