Lazio mutually terminate Samuel Gigot’s contract | OneFootball

Lazio have ended Samuel Gigot’s deal, the defender having not played a competitive match for more than a year.

The club said in a statement on Tuesday that the employment contract had been terminated by mutual agreement, confirming the move amid their deadline-day business.

The 32-year-old arrived on deadline day two years ago, initially on loan from Olympique Marseille, and was bought the following summer due to an obligation-to-buy clause. In his first season he was not first choice under Marco Baroni, yet he made 23 appearances.

He then struggled with back and knee problems and did not make a single appearance under Maurizio Sarri. Gennaro Gattuso later hoped to call on his former OM pupil, only to find the defender still dealing with serious physical issues.

After Sunday’s win over Genoa, other injured players received positive updates, while Gigot’s status remained out of action.

His departure will allow the Biancocelesti to save €4 million in gross salary.

Gattuso retains five centre-backs, Oliver Provstgaard, Danilho Deokhi, Josip Sutalo, Patric and Alessio Romagnoli. The latter’s future remains uncertain, with Al-Sadd still pushing to sign him before the Qatari transfer deadline on Thursday.
