Lazio are preparing for life without Matteo Cancellieri, as they’re reportedly eyeing a move for underused Juventus player Edon Zhegrova.

Matteo Cancellieri on his Way Out of Lazio?

Despite being selected as a starter in Lazio’s first two official games of the season, Cancellieri could be on his way out of the club. Gennaro Gattuso considers Gustav Isaksen his first choice on the right wing, and the latter confirmed his status with a solid showing off the bench against Bologna, while his Italian compatriot failed to impress.

Genoa Launch an Onslaught for Cancellieri

In recent hours, several clubs have enquired about the 24-year-old whose contract will expire at the end of the season. But according to Sky Sport Italia transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, Genoa are leading the race for the Roman player.

The Grifone are reportedly keen to close the deal as soon as possible, as they intend to bolster Daniele De Rossi’s attacking ranks following the controversial opening-day defeat to Napoli. Nevertheless, Fabio Grosso’s Fiorentina are also in the running, even though they have yet to make a concrete approach.

Lazio to Replace Cancellieri With Edon Zhegrova

If the Biancocelesti end up offloading Cancellieri, they would make room for a new addition. According to Italian journalist Damiano Er Faina and La Lazio Siamo Noi, the Italian capital club could try to fill the hole by recruiting Zhegrova.

Zhegrova’s Juventus Struggles

The 27-year-old is a tricky right winger who rose to fame during his time at LOSC Lille. Last summer, he joined Juventus for €15 million. However, the Kosovar was still recovering from a long-term injury, so he struggled for form and playing time in his first year in Turin. He made 27 appearances in all competitions, failing to make a single goal contribution.

Zhegrova is now coming off a positive pre-season, but he remains a back-up for Francisco Conceicao in Luciano Spalletti’s pecking order. The Bianconeri also have another player vying for the same role in Nico Gonzalez, albeit the latter is pushing for an exit.
