League Cup Draw: Why Enzo Maresca will be happy with Chelsea’s opponents

We had the League Cup draw last night and Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca will be happy with who they are facing.

Maresca just saw his side scrape past League One side Lincoln City in a game that they were 1-0 down in at half time. It took a quick turn around after the break to bring Chelsea back ahead in the game, but it was far from a vintage Chelsea performance and they were very lucky to be the winning side in the end to advance into the next round.

EXCLUSIVE! Cole Palmer now has NEW injury and will be out for a set time!

The Blues boss reacted to the game on Instagram yesterday afternoon and even he admitted the need for improvement going forward into our next game this weekend against Brighton in the Premier League.

It just wasn’t a good game for Chelsea and it had Maresca saying that he would rather face a Premier League side rather than a League One side. I get what he means by that, but Chelsea should not be struggling to beat a League One side, that is the bottom line for me.

Maresca will be happy

So with the above in mind, Maresca will be happy that Chelsea are now facing Premier League opposition in Round four of The Carabao Cup, with the drawing taking place last night.

Maresca’s side will now travel to Premier League strugglers Wolves in the next round, managing to avoid any top Premier League sides, and perhaps more importantly, any League One sides!

The Chelsea website confirmed the draw late last night.

Wolves have had a bad start

Sitting bottom of the Premier League so far after five games in, Wolves have suffered five consecutive defeats at the start of the 2025/26 campaign.

Chelsea should more than fancy themselves for this game.
