L’Equipe reports that Leeds United are closing in on Nice left-back Melvin Bard. He has agreed a loan-to-buy move to Elland Road with a £900k loan fee and a £4.3m option.
Leeds go into deadline day needing centre-back cover after Joe Rodon’s injury, full-back cover for Gabi Gudmundsson and potentially two attackers with Willy Gnonto set to go.
Bard, a two-time France international aged 25, has spent five years at Nice and made 193 appearances. Across Nice and Lyon he has played 212 games and contributed 14 goal involvements. He chose Leeds over West Ham.
Leeds have leaned on right-footed James Justin at left-back. Bard would provide specialist cover and experience, with senior France caps.
Attacking reinforcements remain on the agenda. Only Harry Wilson has arrived so far and Gnonto is set to join Joel Piroe in leaving. A striker and a versatile left-sided option are still required as the 11pm deadline approaches.
