After missing out on promotion last season following defeat by Hull City in the play-off semi-final, it has been a busy summer for Millwall, with nine new signings arriving at The Den, including the likes of Mark Sykes, Jenson Metcalfe, Kyrell Lisbie, Tairyk Arconte and Lyndon Dykes.

The Lions made a strong start to the new campaign as they won their opening two league games, but they were beaten 5-1 at Southampton on Saturday, and it seems manager Alex Neil is keen to bolster his squad further before tonight's 11pm transfer deadline.

However, Millwall are set to be dealt a huge blow on deadline day after Brighton & Hove Albion agreed a deal worth up to £15 million for star winger Femi Azeez, and they have also suffered a setback in pursuit of one of their transfer targets.

According to Sky Sports Transfer Centre (01/09, 14:28), the Lions have had a formal bid of £1.5 million rejected for Luton goalkeeper Keeley, but it appears they may already have turned their attention elsewhere.

After arriving on loan from Sunderland in January, Anthony Patterson was Millwall's first-choice goalkeeper in the second half of last season, but they missed out on a permanent deal for him this summer as he joined Championship rivals Wrexham for a reported fee of £8 million.

Lukas Jensen started the Lions' first two league games of the season, keeping two clean sheets in the process, but Neil revealed that he is set for a "considerable period" on the sidelines after suffering a quad injury in training last week.

Max Crocombe deputised between the sticks in the defeat at Southampton on Saturday, but Jensen's injury has forced Neil back into the transfer market for goalkeeping reinforcements, although it seems Keeley will not be making the move to The Den.

Keeley has kept 14 clean sheets in 51 appearances for Luton since making a £1 million move to Tottenham Hotspur last summer, and despite receiving a late bid from Millwall, the Hatters have rejected their advances as they look to keep hold of the Republic of Ireland international.

However, the Lions are set to bring in a new goalkeeper on deadline day, with Sky Sports reporting that they are closing in on the signing of Stevenage goalkeeper Filip Marschall, who recorded 19 clean sheets in 48 appearances last season as Alex Revell's men reached the League One play-offs.

Having a solid goalkeeper is crucial in any promotion push, so it is understandable that Millwall are keen to recruit a new shot-stopper before the transfer deadline after Jensen's injury.

While Keeley would have been a strong addition for the Lions, Marschall has been another of the standout goalkeepers in League One over the past year, with his impressive clean sheet record providing the platform for Stevenage's play-off charge.

It remains to be seen whether Marschall can make the step up to the Championship, but his time at Stevenage, as well as his previous stints in the lower leagues, suggest that he could be a smart investment for Millwall.
